VICTORIA - The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says it has major concerns about the environmental impact a new Sea-to-Sky highway would have on the Howe Sound area.
In a letter posted on the province's Sea-to-Sky project website, the DFO recommends rejecting the plan if a more detail isn't produced.
The letter says there is no evidence to prove there will not be residual environmental effects.
It also says there have only been preliminary plans for the proposed crossings of creeks and streams.
It notes other route and construction options were not pursued.
And it says earlier DFO recommendations have either been ignored or inadequately addressed.
The $600-million highway project was a key selling point of Vancouver's winning 2010 Olympic bid.
